Lewisham Disabled People’s Commission

Lewisham Disabled People’s Commission is an independent commission set up by Lewisham Council as part of their Corporate Strategy. One of the key priorities in the strategy is to make Lewisham ‘a welcoming place of safety for all, where we celebrate the diversity that strengthens us’. The Disabled People’s Commission, which is run by D/deaf and disabled residents, will play a major role in achieving this vision.

The Lewisham Disabled People’s Commission (LDPC) was formally launched on 3rd December 2019, which was the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The LDPC is working to identify the barriers faced by disabled people in the borough and make recommendations for change. We are also looking at ways to better involve disabled people in the design and delivery of services that the Council provides for them.

The first meeting of the LDPC took place in January 2020. The second meeting was due to take place in March 2020, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Planned engagement with local residents and service users has also been postponed for safety reasons.

In the meantime, please email info@lewishamdpc.org.uk if you have any questions or would like to be involved in future work.
